Patrick Cassels is hilarious and full of anecdotes. It just didn’t make sense that he didn’t have Tumblr. We pled with him. We reasoned. Jake even organized a petition. But nothing worked.

Today we held an intervention. I organized, Ricky hosted, Jake, Sarah and Amanda wrote letters, and Amir and Blake shot it.

staff: Yesterday, Amit Gupta had a great suggestion to include thumbnails on Video posts in the Dashboard: I love Tumblr, but I almost never watch the videos people post. But I click on photos to see the bigger version all the time. Video posts could really use a still frame to give you a peek at what’s inside. Anyone else feel this way? We were already doing this with videos uploaded to Tumblr.  Now we’ll also show thumbnails next to YouTube videos. Thanks, Amit!  No Vimeo? =(

  1. find a way to explain to users a complicated process and its value proposition in a sentence.
  2. whenever possible take the most future-proof way of sizing an element.
  3. identify the difference between when WHO did what is more important than who did WHAT.
  4. find the right order of activities and page types to bubble up to reinforce the idea of community.
  5. assume some portion of the users will change their mind constantly after performing an action or stop second guessing their intentions?
  6. soon or later, everything is going to start looking like a problem that’s best solved with a tab interface. resist the temptation.
